My hiking group trekked around the base of Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Texas. It was a beautiful, clear December day and we took advantage of it.

Along The Cliff
Spotted this cliff on the Violet Crown Trail in Austin, Texas. I don’t know what made the array of indentations. Can birds do that?

Souvenir Socks
Marie and I hiked the Taos Valley Overlook Trail. At the edge of the Rio Grande Gorge, we met some cyclists who were taking a break. Two were originally from Texas (Marfa and Houston) and one from Massachusetts. One of the cyclists wore socks with the Zia symbol. Ooh, aah. Wouldn’t it be nice if I could find a pair of socks just like that for souvenirs!
Marie checked around on the Internet and found them at the Gearing Up bike shop in Taos. We nipped right on over and I got two pair of souvenir socks. (The dog hair was added after I got home. Nothing in my house is free of dog hair for very long.)
Inner Space Cavern
My hiking group toured the Inner Space Caverns in Georgetown, Texas. It’s a little hot to be traipsing around outside in the middle of the day, so we went underground where it was cool. And it was really cool! The lowest point in the tour was about 70 feet underground. We saw a few bats here and there. Our guide told us what kind of bat it was, but I don’t remember what she said. I didn’t worry about it, knowing I could look it up later. Well, I can look it up all right, but I can’t figure out which of the Texas bat species it is.
Photos are allowed, even with flash, but not for the bats. I took this photo when the guide used her flashlight to show us the bat.
