Union Pacific

I caught this as the train pulled through Luling, Texas. I was working on my panning technique, where the central subject is in focus (mostly) and the surroundings are blurred. I didn’t capture any of the surroundings in this photo, but I was happy to get a moving object in focus.

Boot and Spur

This boot is on top of a sign for a western wear/boot store (Cavender’s). From where I stood, it looked about eight feet tall. The sky was a nondescript grey so I added the yellow in Photoshop. With these colors, maybe this boot could be in a Dr Seuss story.

The Lullaby

Lucy slept soundly in the soft bed, under the warm quilt in the cabin inherited from her grandmother. When she awoke, she discovered the light in the bedroom was not moonlight, but from the jar and the candle on the table: they glowed.

As she picked up the candlestick, stones lining the path outside the window lit up. She ventured outside, unlit candle in hand. The closer she got to the path, the brighter the candlelight became.

She thought she heard someone singing a lullaby. Lucy looked back at the cabin only once, then followed the sound of the song.
