My very own fan club. All they want is for me to bring the food and get out of the way! And those White-winged doves may sound docile with their cooing, but they don’t play well with others. I’m going to rethink that clichéd reference about the hawk and the dove, that’s for sure.
One of these things is not like the other
The brutal heat and humidity are arriving in central Texas. Even the giraffes are wearing hats to try to keep cool.

A lizard hard at work growing back its tail. Hubby says this is a wood lizard. I searched the Internet and the Texas spiny lizard came back as the result. Maybe they are the same lizard?

Masako stayed where she fell, freezing and exhausted. A silhouette blocked the light and she looked up: a crane. Not this high on Mount Fuji, she thought; she must be hallucinating, close to death. The crane shielded her from the falling snow, nudging her until she arose. Masako stumbled, following it to a crevice on the cliff where she sheltered until the storm passed, beneath wings of refuge and warmth.
Another such storm, tonight. Masako closed her eyes, knowing the crane will appear in her dreams. In the morning she will climb the mountain and rescue the one safeguarded there.
