Day 1: Lily

I’m participating in a challenge for the month of June: paint a watercolor every day. Here is my Day 1 effort: a lily. Part of the challenge is to paint without an underlying sketch or drawing. Oh dear. We’ll see how that goes. I didn’t wait quite long enough for the flower paint to dry before I added in the light blue background. Better luck next time, right?

Pear in Watercolor

My online sketch and watercolor class is over, so I’m heading off on my own. I bought a box of 50 Strathmore watercolor cards.

Now that I see it online, it doesn’t look dark enough in the lower left area. Somehow I haven’t learned to see those types of details until I post it to my blog. This was the first watercolor card I mailed. One down, 49 to go.

Heart-Shaped Macaroons

I specifically bought the two heart-shaped macaroons with painting in mind. I looked at the heart shapes, the little ledges that peeked out, the darkness of the chocolate along the bottom edge, the two colors of the raspberry macaroon.

I couldn’t get any of that to come across in my watercolor painting. I have so much to learn.

I had a much easier time eating them than painting them.

They tasted good.
