Searching
I’m always searching
For things left in that safe place.
How hard can it be?
I am pretty sure
My Room of Requirements
Is laughing at me.

Looking for Love
In spring, mockingbird
Sings at night, looking for love
Keeping me awake
Wishing him good luck
In finding a mate so I
Can finally sleep

I thought song birds were quiet at night. Turns out bachelor mockingbirds will sing at night, looking for a mate. The wisteria vine on the fence outside my window serves as a nice perch for one such mockingbird. I hope he finds a girlfriend soon.
New Shoes
New shoes, seven miles
Up and around Wolf Mountain
New blisters, too. Ouch.

Falling Leaves
The forest isn’t silent, not really
Falling leaves twist in the wind
Crinkling as they descend
Their echoes bouncing from branch to branch
In a secret language of changing seasons, color
The pine needle floor fades my footfalls to
A whisper of a memory as the path behind disappears
In the diminishing sunlight
I understand how one gets lost in the forest
I know why one so chooses

Into Eternity
My eyes close
As the earth revolves
Starlight travels into eternity
Tomorrow, the sun rises
