Three Vultures
Image

While I was waiting for the plumber (who didn’t show up), I noticed a black vulture on the top of the utility pole near the house. Then I saw another one on top of the house. That’s when I started to worry if I should start to worry . . .

I’m much happier with this feather sketch than with others I made some time ago. The proportions are still off, (I didn’t leave enough room for the bottom portion of the quill), but getting better.
I found this feather earlier in the week while hiking the Canyonlands Trail in Lakeway, Texas. My guess is that it belonged to a vulture (black or turkey vulture?). All the trails have signs about not removing any wood, rocks or any kind of artifacts, but I thought that as this fell from the sky and didn’t originate on the trail, I would claim it.
Hubby and I hiked a couple of trails at the McKinney Roughs Nature Park, managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority (or LCRA, as we call it). Our idea was to get photos of birds, but I’m finding out that getting bird photos is more than just having a camera and showing up in the forest.
I could hear the birds, and sometimes I could see the birds, but taking a good photo was not easy. My best bird photos were just okay and most were blurred.

We could see deer every once in a while.

The red berries stood out with their color.
