Evening primrose
Spring pink blooms unfurl gently
Beauty beckoning
NaPoWriMo 2014 Day 24
Full ponds and warm weather
A sure sign that it’s spring
Making the frogs hop and sing
‘Tis the season for their song
Their serenade lasts for hours and hours
Invading my sleep, making it sour
How do I request an owl fly over
Just a need a little silence
Before throwing shoes over the fence
I considered retaliation
Singing before dawn on the pond banks
Disturbing the frogs in the tanks
My neighbors might take offence
Feed me to the frogs, claiming self defense
Turn up their air conditioner and sleep soundly
Stupid frogs
NaPoWriMo 2014 Day 23
A sentinel bush marking ten years
Planted as a promise of better days to come
Each year the promise kept
Of briars and thistles swept
Walking paths through the trees now beckon
Colts and canines greet at the fence
Prancing in rehearsed unison
Rose scent wafts in a swirl
Allowing us respite under the shadows
Shielded by Susan’s rose
NaPoWriMo day 22
Turtles slip into the water
They have for millennia and will for many after
Rustling in the bushes, I listen harder
Gasp to see a carnivore dinosaur, a velociraptor
I halt in my place, try not to sneeze
The last thing I want is to warrant its attention
My scent blown downwind by the breeze
Not getting eaten is my latest intention
I do my best to shrink in my place
Then backtrack one step at a time
Willing my motion to not leave a trace
I retreat from the Cretaceous Period, praying like a mime
NaPoWriMo Day 21
Old world roses bloom but once a year
Such timing makes us hold them all the more dear
The petal clusters are small and tight
Mother Nature assures us she got it right
I planted two: yellow and white
Lady Banks, Lady Banks beautiful in any light
