We’re a little slow to figure out
That Mother Nature is in it for the long haul, an ultra-marathoner
She probably wonders why we misbehave so
In our lives of short sprints
NaPoWriMo day 10
Cold and rainy won’t keep us out
Crossing the finish line is what it’s about
Twelve thousand of our closest friends
Keep us company going around the bend
Walking just over two hours is a good pace
While we chat during the Capitol 10K race
We ran a marathon a long time ago
Now it’s just for fun, personal records we’ve let go
Musicians play for us on our way
And volunteers give us water keeping thirst at bay
It was cold, rainy and it was fun
Even though we were so far back we never heard the starting gun
(My placement was 11,610 of 11,992 finishers. Smokin’!!)
NaPoWriMo Day 6 (No one said it had to be good poetry.)
