Thread Painted Rabbit

I drew a rabbit a few days ago (based on Mark Crilley’s YouTube video How To Draw A Rabbit) and then I “painted” it in thread (on my sewing machine). This is my first effort at thread painting without having a photograph on the base fabric; this is all free-hand. I think the whiskers are too dark, but it is not like using graphite pencils where I can erase!

When I drew the rabbit, I used two pencils: Raffiné 3B and Prismacolor Black. When I stitched the rabbit, I used seven threads: Gütermann 30-weight 4335, 8, 9333, 40, 3454, 93, 000 (black). I used the black for the whiskers; too dark.

Coming Home

The soldier, in full dress uniform, sat at the counter without touching the food April put in front of him.

“Home on leave?” she asked.

Looking up, he shook his head with sad, hollow eyes.

As she waited on other customers, she saw him weep, teardrops falling on the newspaper he was reading.

When she next noticed, he was gone. April cleaned up the counter where he’d been, picking up the newspaper. Her heart broke when she saw the splotches of his fallen tears on the obituary page. It was his photo looking back at her; his burial was today.

Bill’s Guitar

After our hike at Pace Bend Park, we had a picnic lunch and a Christmas carol sing-a-long. Bill brought his guitar and he and Gloria led us in song. It was a cold, grey, dreary day (46 degrees with a wind chill factor), we missed a few turns hiking back and ending up somewhere other than planned, and I had the best time! Good company, good music, good food. It just doesn’t get any better.

This is my first photo edited in Lightroom. I signed up for a photography class that starts in January and using Lightroom is one of the requirements. I watched a few tutorials and chose a photo to work on. Might as well get started, right?

Here is the original photo, one I would never choose to post.

Before today, the only editing I’ve done on any photo is to crop it, change it to black and white, or downsize it. Looks as if that is going to change. I am looking forward to learning how to be a better photographer and how to edit photos.
