I saw a Cooper’s Hawk sitting on top of the pigeon coop, but by the time I got my camera from the house, it was gone. Then I noticed it sitting on the ground, in the shadows. Was it hiding?

Practically invisible?

Wow, that is gorgeous! We have red tailed hawks all over the place here and they are so regal. There was one that used to sit on the fence on the football practice field and as long as you stayed where it could see you, it would let you get close enough to see the detail in its feathers. I think there are a lot of hawks on that side of campus because it’s very swampy and there’s a pretty good food source for them with all the mice and rodents. I actually saw one kill a squirrel and fly off with it last fall. Gruesome but the circle of life I guess.
I’ve never seen a hawk capture its prey, but I have seen places with a lot of feathers strewn about that suggest a bad ending for a pigeon or two.
Yeah if there’s a hawk around, it’s not going to end well for something. They are majestic creatures and it’s the circle of life, but seeing that hawk take out a squirrel was a bit unsettling to say the least.
Camera shy?
