These are Yellow-headed Blackbirds (most of them). It took me forever to find that out, and actually I didn’t, hubby did. I spent hours and hours on the Internet, looking up “orange and black” birds. Finally, I decided they were Orioles, but I couldn’t find a photo of one with coloring just like the birds in our front yard. Hubby — somehow — discovered they were YELLOW-headed blackbirds. Well, they look orange to me.
Photography 101: Swarm
Interesting birds – I have never seen those before. Good swarm photo! Where did you photograph them, as in what country?
Photographed south of Austin, Texas, USA.
Thank you.
Great pictures! Yes, fairly rare around here (Central California), it took me awhile to identify one watching me change my irrigation water 🙂 http://drycrikjournal.com/2014/04/15/yellow-headed-blackbird/
They seem to be a bit out of their normal range here as well. First time we had seen them in 14 years at this house.
Lovely photos! I’ve never seen such unique birds. The closest we have here in MA are red winged blackbirds.
