Light from the Past
“How long did it take you to get home?” Sharon led her neighbor, Anne, into the kitchen.
“Five hours. The low water crossings were flooded.” Anne sat down at the counter. “How long has the electricity been out?”
“Not sure.” Sharon lit her grandmother’s oil lamps as the light started to fade. “It was off when I got here. Care for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some chips?”
“Best offer I’ve had all day.” Grateful for the light from the lamps, Sharon and Anne raised their water bottles in a toast to Mother Nature and Trudy, Sharon’s grandmother.

One of the nice things about losing power is that it brings people together and gives them an opportunity to share beautiful moments like this one. 🙂
Yes, and be thankful for small things that can ease the stress in such times.
That sounds like a good way to spend a power cut. Nice story.
The name Trudy is a nice touch. 🙂
A nice slice of reality.
Having just been through Hurricane Matthew here in Florida, last week, this story touched the
core of what happens when we’re taken back to antiquity. Nicely written …

I hope that they have fuel to refill the lamps.
I appreciate all my grandparents’ stuff I’ve saved. My hats off to all the Trudy’s.

Just a short blackout is ok. Cosy and fun. After a few hours, however, I’ve had enough. I like the scene you’ve built here – warm and comforting.
Lovely warm story of friendship. I hope their freezers hold out!
Oil lamps gave a beautiful effect on your counter. Great shot!
