Suffering
The room was small and dark. The radiator clinked and clanked without emitting much heat.
“Good,” Sean thought, unpacking. (His real name was John but he thought it too prosaic. Easier to brood as Sean.) He was A Writer and was here To Work.
“I will suffer for my art, just like the great 19th century writers.” (His suffering was temporary and self-imposed. His parents were quite wealthy.) “When everything is perfect, I will start writing.”
Night fell. Heβd never been anywhere so quiet, so secluded.
Sean looked at his phone. “Iβm lonely. Maybe just a couple of phone calls ⦔

You can’t rush art like that, can you? π
There’s a world of difference between wanting to be a writer and wanting to write. I think all of us can identify with this story. I loved the narrator’s voice setting us straight about John
Resistance. Regardless the background or not, this is what all writers have to get through.

That was fun, from the dramatic name change to the perfect setting. Too bad it didn’t work, LOL.
He needs to grow up a bit. He’s got the wrong idea. He can’t get rid of the phone, though. He’s in a lonely spot. He’ll also find out a little money will feed and clothe him. He’ll learn. Well done, Tresha. π — Suzanne
He wants to suffer to be a great writer, right? He should write about being cold and lonely. Plenty of subject matter right in front of him.
