Celtic Festival (3)

More photos from the photography field trip to the Celtic Festival in McDade, Texas.

Something new for me was the caber toss, a sport from Scotland. Those poles start around 65 pounds and are about 19 feet tall. If the tosser is successful at tossing it end over end before it hits the ground, in the next round they get to use a heavier pole.

Tammy lifted the pole up high enough that it did, indeed, flip end over end before landing. A round of applause for Tammy!

Celtic Festival (2)

At the Celtic Festival in McDade, we saw the archery contest with the long bow.

I actually got a photo of an arrow in flight.

At the end of the contest, all the archers drew their long bows at the same time, for the volley.

Cold and Rainy Race

Cold and rainy won’t keep us out
Crossing the finish line is what it’s about
Twelve thousand of our closest friends
Keep us company going around the bend

Walking just over two hours is a good pace
While we chat during the Capitol 10K race
We ran a marathon a long time ago
Now it’s just for fun, personal records we’ve let go

Musicians play for us on our way
And volunteers give us water keeping thirst at bay
It was cold, rainy and it was fun
Even though we were so far back we never heard the starting gun

(My placement was 11,610 of 11,992 finishers. Smokin’!!)

NaPoWriMo Day 6 (No one said it had to be good poetry.)
