This is the old airport control tower in the Mueller neighborhood. Some years ago, the Mueller airport moved from this site to the closed Bergstrom Air Force base. When the Mueller neighborhood was developed, they left the tower standing.
This is a water tower. I’ve driven by it countless times and wondered what it was. I finally saw a reference to it in the information about the urban hike through the Mueller neighborhood.
Tim Diggles posted a series of Edges photos that I found beautiful and inspiring (Tunstall Edges, Cornish Edges, Tate Edges. (I love his other photos, too.) I decided to try ‘edges’ as a subject. As a starting point, I took my camera outside and checked out some of the windows. Our window sills seem to be holding areas for watering equipment.
Quite a few cranes are visible around Austin these days.
