Mayfield Park and Preserve

I visited the Mayfield Park and Preserve for the first time (and I’ve lived in the Austin area for how long?!) and found some beautiful scenes. The park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Next time I’ll spend more time on the trails.

I was hoping the peacock would somehow shed just one tail feather while I was there, but that didn’t happen.

One feather for me?

I heard the peacocks before I saw them. What a piercing cry!

So blue!

Susan’s Rose

A sentinel bush marking ten years
Planted as a promise of better days to come
Each year the promise kept
Of briars and thistles swept

Walking paths through the trees now beckon
Colts and canines greet at the fence
Prancing in rehearsed unison

Rose scent wafts in a swirl
Allowing us respite under the shadows
Shielded by Susan’s rose
