A Lot of Explaining To Do
Janet ran after her dog, Cricket, after he pulled the leash from her grasp. She followed him to a small clearing, found him circling a tree, a squirrel objecting noisily from the safety of a high branch.
Picking up the leash, she noticed the headstone and walked over to read its inscription. The name was exactly like hers. The woman’s death date was Janet’s birth date.
Experiencing a moment of lightheadedness, Janet dropped to her knees. Cricket whimpered.
Who was this woman? All she knew is that when she got home, her grandparents had a lot of explaining to do.

For this story, I started out with the idea of someone coming across a headstone with a name exactly like theirs on it.
What a way to find out…
Ain’t that the truth. And it might not be the only surprise . . .
You find that a lot when you do genealogy. Makes research a pain!
Hope her grandparents can come up with a satisfying explanation.
Interesting story. I hope the explanation will widen her heart.
Oh, my! They certainly have a thing or two to answer for.
I wonder why Cricket is whimpering. Very mysterious….
Sounds like a ghostly truth coming up,,,,,
I wanted to hear more. Lovely piece of flash fiction.
Hmmm? There’s more to that story.
What could have happened… mystifying.
At least she knew they were her grandparents!
I love this story! I wish it could continue!
