The Friday Fictioneer Challenge: Write a 100-word story based on the photo.

Too Early?
A little light shone through the broken shutters. Walking slowly towards the windows, Veronica stumbled over a lump of something. Please don’t be a dead person, she prayed, instantly religious.
Why did I think selling real estate was a good idea?
“Doesn’t need much,” the owner said. She wondered if he was a political speech writer.
The shutter came off the hinges as she opened it. What it needs, Veronica decided, is a wrecking ball.
She wondered if it was too early to drop by the pub. A cigarette and a drink, that’s what I need. And a new job.

It’s good that ‘religious’ thing went away quickly, so that she could have a drink and smoke. 😛
A matter of convenience for Veronica.
It’s a matter of convenience for many of the ‘good Christians’, yet they demand that the rest of us take their delusions seriously. 😦 😯
The moment is beautifully summoned. Each event shows us Veronica’s mind working
“Instantly religious” made me chuckle! Good story.
Hah! I loved this – it combines humor and moroseness in equal measure. I enjoyed this line, especially: “Please don’t be a dead person, she prayed, instantly religious.”
Well-done, Tresha!
Definitely a new job…the pub and the cigarette might not help as much as a new job.
Too easy job descriptions rarely turn out the way we hope. Fun take on the prompt, with some great lines.
“instantly religious”
I think we’ll all been there. I felt her pain.
A new job would be high on my list too. Nice work!
Very good. I feel her pain. I felt a little like that when I met my first class of Year 10 girls – more interested in seeing how easy it would be to bring this new teacher down than in anything remotely connected with education. One line particularly resonated with me: ‘Why did I think selling real estate (teaching) was a good idea?’ Just so you know, I lasted more than 30 years, and I won in the end. I hope your real estate agent comes through too.
“… instantly religious” 🙂
This left me wondering would I buy it. Yes. Great characterisation.
