With a stick full of dangling slime, Sammy ran towards his classmates, yelling “Moose snot! Moose snot!” Frank pushed him away, snarling, “Oh, grow up.”

Next, Sammy spotted Tina. “Moose snot!” he yelled, stumbling towards her, waving his forestal trophy. Tina lunged, snatching it right out of his hand. “Grow up,” she hissed.

But so far, growing up wasn’t interesting or fun for Sammy.

Twenty-five years later, he read about a Canadian-American project researching the decline of the Alces alces; Tina was the lead scientist.

Now that’s interesting, Sammy thought, wondering if it was too late to start growing up.

  1. Sammy had the right idea – but in the wrong decade. Researchers will find that Tina has probably been studying the Moose-snot for years. It looks like moose vomit to me – not that I have really seen it before! ha ha Good job! Nan 🙂

    • I still don’t know what that glob is. First I wondered how I was going to write a story based on something unidentifiable. Turns out that as a writer, I don’t need to know what it is. Sammy didn’t know what it was either, he just used it as a prop.

  2. Tresha, I think we usually develop our interests at a young age. They may seem odd to adults who don’t understand the scientific, legal, instructor, writer, artist, theatric, etc. mind at that early stage. Looking back, I can see what fields my kids were headed for. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
