I don’t usually hike McKinney Falls State Park in the summer; it’s just too hot. But one day in early August, there was a cloud cover, and there I was.

I saw these trees while driving through Erath County, Texas. I loved arrangement and the visual effect. I decided that on my way home, I’d stop and photograph it. And I did. But I found that in the meantime, a herd of cows had arrived and were taking advantage of the shade. I couldn’t see the tree trunks at all.
