Tree, as a sapling, you unfurled in a century before mine
Your last leaf of life will fall long after I am dust

Rendezvous
Venus and the Moon meet in the low, eastern darkness
Their usual rendezvous
I wave in greeting, step up to join them
Halfway, I hesitate when clouds swirl in, as if to shield
Through the grey-blue veil
I catch my last glimpse as they
Fade into the dawn’s shimmer,
Reaching across to each other,
Looking back to gauge my celestial distance
Oh, I wonder, am I intruding?

Honored Samurai

With respect, we bow
