The Friday Fictioneer Challenge: Write a 100-word story based on the photo. Mine is just a wee bit late this week, as I was out and about for several days on a field trip.

The Boy Next Door

“I don’t like him coming here.” Jiang looked out the window at his garden, his pride and joy.

A new family had moved in next door and their son, Ying, roamed about the neighborhood, causing mischief.

“He’ll find playmates and then we won’t see him at all.” Kwan kissed her husband. “Time to go.”

Kwan and Jiang returned home late from the festivities. The morning’s light showed the trees’ reflection on the still water, something Jiang had never seen before.

In disbelief, he rushed outside, splashing about, wondering just how the creek’s water had been diverted to his garden.

“YING!”
